Why
Prior homages to the shining dame of Latinx music abound, but bringing her likeness to the true heart of Cubanhood in the US was long overdue.

Local artist platform KCULL Life and prominent Miami artist Miss Lushy first sat down and ‘broke bread’ in 2020 around the idea of a homage to Celia Cruz that would instill new life, a positive outlook, and color into the tight-knit community of Little Havana.

From the get go and as a direct sponsor, KCULL supported Miss Lushy’s idea of performing this most honorable of renditions to CC. As a multi-themed homage to the Queen of Latin Music, Miss Lushy packed the goods, personifying everything that this project stood and stands for:

  • Vibrance of colorIG Story Launch Party Flyer (pink)
  • Musical passion
  • Artistic soul and mastery
  • Womanhood
  • Granular cultural history and heritage

Asked why she chose Celia for this mural, Miss Lushy unveiled:
“I was born and raised in Miami. As a little girl, I grew up listening to Celia Cruz! Being around Cuban culture all my life, I’ve embraced it as my own. Music is my other passion and having my art studio in this area inspired me to create a tribute mural to honor Celia Cruz. I’m proud of my Latin roots and wanted to share my love for music and art combined.”
